ROCKINGHAM — Martha Diggs Martin, 80, of Rockingham, passed away Friday, Nov. 4, 2022 at her home.
Mrs. Martin was born May 16, 1942 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Herbert and Margaret Gardner Diggs.
She was a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and most recently a member of Roberdel Baptist Church. She worked as a typesetter with the Richmond County Daily Journal and Dorsett Printing, but most important to her was raising her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Tony Preston Martin; and sister, Margaret “Bootsie” Coble.
Surviving are her children, Toni Martin McRae, Chris Martin McDonald (Mike), Traci Martin Batson (Clay), Deanna Martin Kimball (Joey) and Preston Scott Martin (Lori); grandchildren, Laura McRae, Ricky McRae, Brian McDonald, Joni McDonald, Brandy Prisk, Amanda Batson, Carly Batson, Hailey Scott, Addison Martin and Cayden Martin; great-grandchildren, Nolan Roberson, Cash Chappell, Ayden Batson, Jayce Prisk, and Leiana Prisk; stepmother, Kay Diggs Cook; siblings, Herbert Clinton Diggs (Priscilla), Ann Diggs Aycoth (Mike), Judy Diggs Allen (Fred), and Davis Clinton Diggs (Tonia); brother-in-law, John Richard Coble; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Ernie Walters officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park.
The family will see friends from 12:45–1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
