Mary Whittington Shepard, 73, of Rockingham, completed her earthly journey on Monday, Nov. 13, 2023, surrounded by her family and in the arms of her loving husband.
Mrs. Shepard was born Sept. 28, 1950 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Reid Harding and Katherine Paul Whittington.
She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church and had worked with Tartan Marine, Fruit of the Loom and lastly in Dr. Aiken’s office. She later volunteered for Richmond County Aging Services delivering Meals on Wheels. She loved and was loved by her whole family. Some of her most treasured times were spent enjoying meals together with them. She loved, traveling, babysitting her grandchildren and the dances her great granddaughters performed for her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Barbara Funderburk, Alice Harrelson, Reid Whittington Jr. and David Whittington.
Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Odell Shepard; children, Kim Shepard Hall (Greg) and Dale Shepard (Rhonda); grandchildren, Jessica Stedman (Eric), Trent Partin and Courtney Brewer (Nick); great-grandchildren, Claire Stedman, Millie Stedman and Nicholas Brewer; and siblings, Sue Southard, Janette Chappell and Ronnie Whittington.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023 at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe with the Rev. Steve Eddins officiating. Interment will follow in Northam Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 6–8 p.m. Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the home.
