Matthew “Matt” Damien Starling, 46, of Rockingham, passed away Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023 at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill.
He was born June 15, 1977 in Richmond County, son of the late Kenneth Wayne Starling and Deborah Scarboro Allred.
Matt was self-employed as an auto mechanic and was creative with his hands at disassembling and putting things back together. He had a love of fishing and listening to music. He also enjoyed watching wrestling and Flash, the superhero. With a heart of gold and loving everyone, he brightened everyone’s day.
Matt’s greatest joys in life were his family and especially his children. He loved making time for them and playing with them. His children would like everyone to remember their father for who he was… a kind, loving, caring man and to show kindness when you can, to love with no fear, and to live life to the fullest.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alex Scott; and cousin, Shannon Mills.
Matt is survived by his wife, Brandy Starling of the home; his children, Caylee Ryann Starling, Charley Anne Starling, and Caleb Jordan Starling; stepfather, Donald Allred of Cordova; brothers, Joshua Starling (Tiffany) of Derby and Spencer Starling (Denise) of Lynchburg, Virginia; sisters, Christy Cassidy of Rockingham, Nayla McMillan (David) of Hamlet, and Talitha Jenks (Brent); and uncles, Brent Mills (Darlene), and their son Chris, and David Scarboro (Phyllis), all of Rockingham.
Visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023 from 1-2 p.m. at Place of Grace Campus.
A Celebration of Life service will begin at 2 p.m., immediately following the visitation, at Place of Grace Campus, with Pastor Gary Richardson officiating. Burial will be held private.
