OBITUARY: Matthew Odom

ROWLAND — Matthew Odom, 73, of Rowland, passed away recently.

Matthew, born in Dillon, South Carolina, was the son of the late Mr. James Odom and the late Adline Baker Odom.

He attended the public schools of Robeson County, graduating from Southside High School in Rowland.

Matt felt the need to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army on March 17, 1969. He served for three years and received many awards and medals, to name a few: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Service Star.

He received training in CBR, Code Of Conduct Training, Geneva Convention, Projectionist Course, Ballistic Meteorologist Crewman, Military Justice, and Vietnam Training. He received an honorable discharge on Jan. 20, 1972.

After returning home from active duty Matt received an Associate Degree from Pembroke State University in Pembroke. Matt was employed at the Department of Social Services as a case manager in the Economics Services Department and later worked as a case manager at the North Carolina Employment Security Commission in Lumberton among other jobs. Matt always flashed a big smile and took life one day at a time. He was a loving brother, uncle and friend.

Left with precious memories are his siblings and other relatives and friends.

There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023 at Beauty Spot Church Cemetery, 273 Beauty Spot Church Road, Rowland.
