OBITUARY: Michael Parsons McIntyre

Michael Parsons McIntyre, known to most as Mike, was born on June 20, 1946 to the late Bernie C and Mary P. McIntyre. Mike was called home to be with his heavenly Father on Sept. 17, 2023.

Mike graduated from Ellerbe High School in 1964 and Columbia Commercial College in Columbia, South Carolina, in 1967.

Mike leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 56 years, Diana Sarvis McIntyre; son Adam M. McIntyre and daughter-in-law Devan K. McIntyre.

Mike served in the U.S. Army, 97th MP Battalion from 1968-1970 during which time he served a tour in Vietnam.

Mike retired on June 1, 2012. Before retiring, he worked at Southern Correctional Institution in Troy, with diagnostics/intake and helped to found the Blanket Recovery Project, an action which saw him earn the title of Correctional Officer of the Year for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. In 2005, he was assigned to Pasquotank Correctional Institution in Elizabeth City, to work with Corrections Enterprise as a manager. He was a 30-year veteran with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Corrections.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Ross McIntyre-McLeod. Those left to cherish his memory include many family and friends.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 22, 2023 at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe with his friends and will be officiated by his former pastor, Roger Paxton. Visitation will follow the service.
