OBITUARY: Millie Stricklin Vickers

HAMLET — Millie Stricklin Vickers, 70, of Hamlet, went home to be with her Lord Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.

She was born Dec. 30, 1952 in Hamlet, daughter of the late Clyde William Stricklin and Mildred Gainey Stricklin.

Millie previously worked with UPS in shipping and with the University of North Carolina-Wilmington as a mail clerk. She also worked at Second Baptist Christian Academy, Hamlet, which she loved dearly.

She was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church, Hamlet, serving in numerous capacities including director of Women on Missions, director of Girls in Action (GA’s), travel planning with the Love Club, and choir member, as well as several other committees throughout the years. Millie would help in any area when asked.

Millie was full of personality and never met a stranger. She loved shopping and traveling, and just recently, along with her husband, took the grandchildren on a cruise. She loved her family, children, friends, church family, but most of all, God. She will truly be missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ronnie Stricklin.

Millie is survived by her husband of more than 53 years, John F. Vickers of the home; daughters, Denise Vickers Lynch (David) of Hamlet, Jennifer Vickers Tomlinson (T.J.) of Clayton, and Beth Vickers McFarland (Brandon) of Hamlet; six grandchildren, Brooke Parrish (Joe), Victoria Tomlinson, Marissa Tomlinson, Thomas Tomlinson, Johnnie Kay McFarland, and Kane McFarland; brother, Jimmy Stricklin (Jean) of Hamlet; and sister, Nancy Stricklin of Hamlet.
