Born April 1, 1933 in Rockingham and raised in Roberdell, he was the son of the late John C. Gibson and Zola Mae McRae Gibson.
Along with his parents, Norman is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Carolyn Stovall Gibson; daughter, Wanda Melton; stepson, Jimmy Bowersock; brothers, Neil Gibson and Charles Gibson; and sisters, Dorothy Spampinato, Louise Thompson, Jeanette James and Gladys Norton.
He is survived by his stepchildren, Tammy Reynolds (Rick), Joseph C. Norman proudly served our country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After his military service, he worked with Scholl Mechanical Company Inc. and then later retired after more than 40 years of service with Sears Appliance Repair.
In his retirement, Norman enjoyed fishing, cooking, hanging out on his deck, and watching the hummingbirds. And he certainly enjoyed a good cup of coffee.
Norman will be remembered as a moral, loving husband, father, and papa. He was a good friend to many and loved to share his stories.
Graveside services, with full military honors, will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024 at noon at Richmond County Memorial Park with the Rev. Dean Dixon officiating. Interment will follow the service at the cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff of Carolina Hearts Homecare, Rockingham, for the compassionate, loving care given to Mr. Gibson.
