OBITUARY: Oneita Evelyn Hancock Snead

Oneita Evelyn (Hancock) Snead, 98, of Pinehurst, passed on Friday, March 8, 2024 at Fox Hollow Senior Living in Pinehurst.

A visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. with a service to follow at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church of Rockingham with the Rev. Ron Schermerhorn officiating. Burial will follow in the East Rockingham Cemetery.

Nita was born April 29, 1925 in Norman, to the late John and Nellie (Wilson) Hancock.

Nita enjoyed strolling around her yard among her azaleas and camellias. She especially loved her time entertaining family and friends at Ledbetter Lake. The memory of her fried oysters, shrimp salad and hot chow chow linger. She will be remembered for her gracious demeanor in every situation. Her strong belief in angels helps ease our grief as she has now become our angel. She gave us so much love, leaving us so much to miss.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Barney Lee Snead Jr.; her sisters, Elon Black and Villa Mae Webb; a son, Lt. Col. Ronald Bruce Snead; and a granddaughter, Ashley McKay Snead.
