OBITUARY: Oune John Sriratanakoul

Oune John Sriratanakoul, 85 years old, peacefully entered into eternal rest on July 15, 2022, surrounded by family at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Oune was born and raised in Vientiane, Laos, and the youngest of seven children. Prior to his entrance into the military, he attended law school and found his passion for politics. He then served as a lieutenant colonel with the military defense of the Social Republican Party before the Khymer Rouge, a brutal communist regime. His number one priority was to seek safety for his family. We were granted asylum in the United States in 1979 and Oune obtained his citizenship at the age of 57.

Oune built a life and home in Rockingham, where he remained until his final days. He and his wife, Ousa, have been married 65 years and were employed by Burlington Industries where they both retired. He was a provider, protector, and a disciplinarian. Loyalty to family and friends was of utmost importance. He was a well-respected elder and held prestige in the N.C. Laotian community.

Oune was also an active and beloved member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, enjoyed playing music on his keyboard, and loved being surrounded by family and friends. Our loss is immeasurable and missing him is the heartache that will never go away.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chanthong and Saikham Sriratanakoul; and six siblings.

Oune is survived by his wife of the home, Ousa Molly Southichanh Sriratanakoul; children, Ladavanh Souranonh of Statesville, Ouravanh Sydalack (Thongma) of Albemarle, Soudachanh Phoumsavath (Saykham) of Statesville, Ouparavanh Charping (Steve) of Charlotte, Chanhtharack Sriratanakoul of Charlotte, Praphatsone Sciranka (Scott) of Cumming, Georgia, Nakhonekham “Nick” Sriratanakoul (Sarah) of Hamlet, Malaphone Dimperio (Craig) of Sharpsburg, Georgia, and Phouthasone Nicholson of Hamlet; grandchildren, Vieng McLaughlin (Ron), Suzanne Smith (Chip), Amy Hamilton (Dave), Kavin Sydalack (Brittany), Tony Sydalack, Peter Sydalack, Sam Phoumsavath, Brandon Phoumsavath, Stone Charueseen, Tiffany Charueseen, Dominique McRae, E.J.
