ROCKINGHAM — Pat Flowers Chappell, 84, of Rockingham, went home to be with her Lord and Savior the morning of Wednesday, March 15, 2023, in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Pat was a daughter of the late Doris Steven Flowers and Virginia Covington Flowers. She was born July 18, 1938 in Richmond County.
Having been born and raised in Richmond County, Pat was a graduate of Rockingham High School. She was a hardworking, faithful woman. Pat worked for Dr. C.S. Durden and Dr. A.M. Covington faithfully for 46 years.
Outside of work, Pat valued being able to give back to her community through volunteer work. She volunteered for the Red Cross at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and more recently, she volunteered locally at Richmond County Hospice. Along with volunteer work, she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution organization and a charter member of Crestview Baptist Church.
Pat loved her family and was a very proud and beloved Nana to her seven granddaughters. She was a loving wife, mother, nana, and friend who lived her life well and to the fullest. She will be missed, not only by her family and friends, but just as deeply by her community.
Pat is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Gurney Chappell, of the home; children, Brent Chappell (Lisa) of Raleigh, and Patrick Chappell (Michelle) of Rockingham; sister, Judy Wolfe (Romney) of Whitsett; granddaughters, Kristina Nicole Chappell, Caroline Grace Chappell, Madelyn Carol Chappell, Sarah Elisabeth Chappell, Savannah Grace Chappell, Lily Catherine Chappell and Taylor Lee Chappell.
The family will receive family and friends Saturday, March 18, 2023 from noon to 2 p.m. at Crestview Baptist in the fellowship hall. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Robby Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
