ROCKINGHAM — Peggy Joyce Jernigan Upton, 83, of Rockingham made her Heavenly Journey home to her Lord, on Oct. 29, 2022.
Peggy was born on Dec. 24, 1938 in Richmond County to Martin and Nora Watts Jernigan. Peggy was a member of Mount Beulah Pentecostal Holiness Church and was retired from Richmond County Schools cafeterias. She loved singing, gospel music, her grandchildren, her dogs and all people as she never met a stranger.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three children, Kimberley Upton, Terri Lynn Upton, Terry Wayne Upton; sisters Betty Hilburn, Linda Steele; and brother Foy Jernigan.
Surviving are her sons, Luke Upton Jr., Jeffrey Upton and wife Margie; a brother, Tommy Jernigan; grandchildren, Jessica Upton, Kyle Upton, Ryan Upton, Amber Upton, Cory Upton, Josh Upton, Tracy Norris, Kellee Strine; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022 in the Colonial Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Eastside Cemetery in Rockingham.
The family will receive friends and family from 1:45–2:45 on Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at Jeffrey’s home.
