OBITUARY: Rita Kay Banks

Rita Kay Banks, 62, of Hamlet, North Carolina passed away surrounded by her loving family Aug. 6, 2023.

Rita was the daughter of Billy Wayne and Rita Kay Sullivan, she was born June 11, 1962 in Anadarko, Oklahoma.

Along with her parents, Rita is preceded in death by her brother, William.

Rita worked for many years as a housekeeper for several hotels in Richmond County. Outside of work, Rita invested in many creative and unique hobbies such as diamond painting and knitting. She was a tenacious woman that put her heart and soul into her passions. Rita was an avid crafter and dabbled in various mediums.

Along with her arts and crafts, Rita can best be remembered by her decorating. Rita loved an occasion to decorate, especially Christmastime. Rita could clean a house and decorate a tree to the nines, like no other.

These passions of hers will live on through the memories she created with her family, whom she loved endlessly. When you think of Rita, let it be of those precious memories.

Rita is survived by her husband, Tommy Banks, to whom she was married for 43 years and 10 blissful months; her sons, Tommy Banks II (April) of Hamlet and Keith Banks (Lila) of Laurinburg; grandchildren, Austin Grey, Hayden Banks, Kara Banks, Nathan Banks, Hunter Ginter, Tom Banks, Isabell Banks and Hannah Banks. Rita is survived by several siblings and many friends all of whom will miss her dearly.

The family will receive friends for visitation Friday, Aug. 11, 2023 from 2 to 3 p.m. at East Laurinburg Church of God. Funeral will follow immediately afterwards with the Rev. Brett Davis officiating. Interment will be held at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in Laurinburg, North Carolina.
