OBITUARY: Robert Gilmore

ROCKINGHAM — Robert “Bob” Gilmore, 84, of Rockingham, North Carolina, went to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday morning March 29, 2023 at his home.

Bob is a son of the late Robert Gilmore Sr. and Lucille Warnick, born on Sept. 3 1938 in Kansas City, Kansas.

Along with his parents, Bob is predeceased by his sister, Margaret Ann Gilmore.

Bob can be described as a good and giving man. He worked hard to provide for his family. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 30 years of dutiful service to his country. Bob had a Master’s degree in business which he used to provide for his loving family. Bob was an ambitious man, at 84 years old he was working towards obtaining his real estate license.

He was a man of many interests, he loved fishing and hunting. Bob was a member of the Free Masons Lodge of Hamlet, North Carolina. He knew how to tell a story, and has been described as a “master” in telling tall tales. He loved to travel, especially with his wife Sheila, to whom he was married for 47 blissful years. Bob was a well-loved man by many and he will surely be missed.

Bob is survived by his wife, Sheila Gilmore of the home; children, Susie Lloyd (Mike) of Holly Springs, North Carolina, Joshua Gilmore (Alexandra) of Aldie, Virginia, John Gilmore of Tempe, Arizona; sister, Flo Ann Dubois of Urbana Missouri; grandchildren Megan Menard, Nicholas Lloyd, Liam Gilmore, Gavin Gilmore, Gracie Gilmore; and many loving friends.

The family will receive family and friends Monday from 2 to 2:45 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Rockingham, North Carolina. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor Darrel Bowles officiating.

In addition to flowers, memorial donations can be made out to First United Methodist Church-First Place Bible Study, Our Daily Bread Ministry from First United Methodist Church, or Richmond County Animal Shelter.
