OBITUARY: Robert Lee Taylor

ROCKINGHAM — Robert “Bobby” Lee Taylor, 78, of Rockingham, passed away Friday, Oct. 28, 2022 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.

He was born April 8, 1944, in Richmond County, son of the late Jesse W. and Lela Gillis Taylor.

Bobby served our country proudly in the United States Army. He was an active member of Roberdel Baptist Church and loved singing in the choir. He was well-known for singing gospel music and he and his brothers sang as the Taylor Brothers Quartet. He loved going to Walmart and especially loved eating at the Holiday Restaurant and Number 1 Diner. He loved his family dearly; his favorite loves being his two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse W. Taylor and Lela Gillis Taylor; his wife, Mary Jo Scott Taylor; brother, Jerry Taylor; and a niece, Rhonda Culbreth.

Bobby is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Joe Smith of Rockingham; grandchildren, Josh Smith (Kelly) of Mooresville and Jessica Smith (Drake Campbell) of Rockingham; brother, Terry Taylor of Rockingham; sister, Helen Grace Brown of Rockingham; and nieces, Kathy Hatfield and Debbie Wilson (Mike), all of Florence, South Carolina, and Wendy Ruple (Brent) of Marshville.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022 from 6-8 p.m. at Roberdel Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Roberdel Baptist Church, with Pastor Billy Dennis and Pastor Jason Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Richmond County Hospice, 1119 N. U.S. Highway 1, Rockingham, NC 28379; or Roberdel Baptist Church, 1118 Richmond Road, Rockingham, NC 28379.
