OBITUARY: Robert Wayne Meece

ROCKINGHAM — Robert Wayne Meece, 72, of Rockingham, entered into his eternal home on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 9, 1950, in Hamlet, son of the late Carl Franklin Meece and Gladys Goodwin Meece Langley.

Wayne served our country in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. In his working years, he was a correctional captain with the N.C. state prison system from which he retired after many years. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Hamlet. Wayne was also a faithful member of The Church of God of Prophecy, Rockingham, in which he and his wife served as leaders of the Senior Life Group ministry.

He loved playing his guitar and listening to classic country music. During his lifetime, he thoroughly enjoyed history of the United States, especially the Civil War and World War II. Wayne was a family man and loved them unconditionally, especially his children and grandchildren, but also his extended family. He always wanted the best for them all.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Franklin Meece and Gladys Goodwin Meece Langley; son, Tommy Wayne Meece; wife, Twana Strickland Meece; grandson, Nathan Meece; and sister, Virginia Stewart.

He is survived by his wife, Dale Cassidy Meece of the home; daughter, Susan Kay Meece of Siler City; son, Robert Alan Meece (fiancée Jennie) of Hamlet; stepdaughter, Kylie Lewis of Rockingham; grandchildren, Wyatt Allred, Jared Allred, Alana Rose Meece, Dylan Lewis, Sarah Sellers, and Grace Crenshaw; great-granddaughter, Lyla Allred; and brother, Carl F. Meece Jr. (Donna) of Rockingham.

Visitation will be Friday, March 17, 2023 from 6-8 p.m. at The Church of God of Prophecy, Flowers Street, Rockingham.

The funeral service will be Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 1 p.m. at The Church of God of Prophecy, Rockingham, with Pastor Steve Gilmer and the Rev. Donnie Nuttall officiating. Burial, with State and military honors, will immediately follow at Richmond County Memorial Park.
