ROCKINGHAM — Rodney Lee Gibson, 76, of Rockingham, passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023 at Richmond Co. Hospice Haven.
He was born Aug. 11, 1946 in Richmond County, a son of the late Walter Pierce and Marie Howard Gibson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne Dunn Gibson.
Rodney was a member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church and served as an usher and a greeter. His warm smile and caring spirit made everyone feel welcome. He retired from Sealed Air Corporation in 2006 where he held many positions, ultimately becoming a national sales manager. He was an avid golfer and made a hole a one on three different occasions throughout his life.
He was an only child but always dreamed of having a big family. With the love of his life, he did just that! He cherished his time with his wife, four children and six grandchildren by visiting recitals, sports games, and other special occasions and kept an immaculate swimming pool to welcome family and friends. He will be sorely missed.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023 at 3 p.m. at Beverly Hills Baptist Church with Chris Thornton Richmond Co. Hospice Chaplain officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Co. Memorial Park.
He is survived by his children, Rhonda Gibson Simmons (Mike), Rodney Lee Gibson Jr. (Hope), Shannon Gibson Stanley (Eric) and David Chadwick Gibson(Nikki). His grandchildren include Bridgett and Blair Simmons; Piper Goode; Corbin, Daegan and Sullivan Gibson; and step-grandchild Lily Stanley.
The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service and at other times Rodney’s home, 917 Hillcrest Drive, Rockingham.
