OBITUARY: Roger Earl Butler

Roger Earl Butler, 75, of Rockingham, passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2024 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Aug. 25, 1949, in Richmond County, son of the late Jessie Butler Sr. and Bernice Steen Porter.

Roger was a caring and giving person. He would take care of others before himself. He was hilarious, with a great sense of humor, and loved making people laugh. He was a great friend to many and loved shooting pool. To his daughters, he was the best daddy and they have wonderful memories of times spent with him. Roger loved his family dearly, and especially loved his mother who he now has joined in heaven. He will be missed greatly.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jessie Butler Jr. and Perry Eugene Butler Sr.; and sister, Betty Butler.

Roger is survived by his daughters, Tammy Leviner (Troy) and Regina Reep, both of Rockingham; grandchildren, Roy Easler Jr. (Stephanie), Catherine Jenks (Dustin), Ashley Baucom (Cameron) and Brandon Knorr; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Ann White of Patrick, South Carolina, and Janice Blanton of Rockingham; and close friends, Larry Chavis, Dennis Smith, Ronnie Williams, Gerald Goins, Micky Horne and Jimmy Wyand. The family wishes to thank these friends for continuing to be there for their daddy even in his last days.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home, Hamlet.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024 at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Harrington Funeral Home, with Pastor Gerald Goins officiating. Burial will follow at Steen Family Cemetery, Bennettsville, South Carolina.

At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Tammy, 183 Rich Drive, Rockingham.
