OBITUARY: Roger Odell Smith

Roger Odell Smith, a beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away on Oct. 25, 2024 at the age of 74.

Born on Jan. 15, 1950 in Richmond County, North Carolina, Roger was a man who embodied kindness and love in every facet of his life. As the office manager for Bascom Hatcher Plumbing, he navigated his career with a unique blend of wit and sincerity that made those around him feel valued.

Roger’s personality shone brightly; he was funny, loving, and caring, traits that drew people to him effortlessly. He was not just a father; he was a guiding light for his children — Misty Smith, Michael Smith (Christina), and Stephanie Smith — who cherished their time with him. His love extended to his grandchildren, Jude Reeder and Jessica Smith, numerous nieces and nephews, and the mother of his children, Linda Deese Smith, whose laughter and joy enriched his life immeasurably.

In addition to his role in the family, Roger found joy in the little things. He had a passion for antique cars and delighted in taking them to car shows, showcasing not only his collection but also his zest for life. His loyalty as a Dallas Cowboys fan was unwavering; Sundays were often spent cheering for his team while enjoying what he loved most — watching football. Outdoor activities brought him joy, particularly yard work, where he found peace amidst nature.
