OBITUARY: Ronald Legrand English

BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. — Ronald “Ronnie” Legrand English, age 62, of Bennettsville, South Carolina, passed away at his home on Sept. 25, 2022.

Born in Richmond County on Nov. 14, 1959, Ronnie was son of the late Rev. Eugene English and Annie “Lee” Cumber English.

Ronnie was a mill technician for Domtar Paper where he was employed for many years. He faithfully attended and worshipped at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Wallace, South Carolina. A talented machinist, he enjoyed working on and riding old tractors.

When he wasn’t tinkering on something, he enjoyed traveling, especially to the mountains. Ronnie was a sports enthusiast who loved playing and watching sports, especially his grandchildren’s games. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by a niece, Carla Nicole English.

Ronnie is survived by wife, Valerie “Dale” Smith English of the home; his children, Ronald Shane English (April Bryant), Joni Rowe (Shad); and stepdaughter, Mandy Shaw (Marcus); brothers, Jimmy English (Debbie) of Wallace, South Carolina, Jerry English Sr. (Stephanie) of Rockingham; sisters, Debbie Paul and Phyllis Barton (Bob) both of Hamlet; grandchildren, Jay Williams Jr., Ashlyn English, Bryndan English, Abel Rowe, Miley Shaw; along with a host of loving uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022 at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Wallace, South Carolina, with burial following in the church cemetery.

The family will have a time of visitation prior to services on Tuesday, beginning at 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the church.
