Sadie Pankey Richardson, 97, of Rockingham, completed her earthly journey on Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, at Hospice Haven.
Mrs. Richardson was born Feb. 26, 1927 in Richmond County, the eldest child of the late Kenny Rosvell and Odessa Blakely Pankey.
She married Samuel Henry Richardson on March 8, 1952, and enjoyed 36 years together before his passing. She worked as a seamstress with Gilead Manufacturing for many years and also with Pizza Inn in Rockingham.
In addition to her sewing talents, she was a homemaker and farmer’s wife, which was a job within itself. She loved her family tremendously and gave her all to them until her final days. Her strength and determination were witnessed by all of those who loved her.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her children, Dillard Richardson (Elizabeth), James Richardson, Leon Richardson (Maryella); grandchildren, David Richardson and Dona Richardson; great-granddaughter, Amity Cruz; siblings, Mary Frances “Bob” Roberts (Henry), Ruth Curry (Auman), Ella Prevette (Sam), Eva Mae Hill (James) (Leon Terry), Carol Richardson, Betty Layton; and special friend, Hobert Hudson.
She is survived by her children, Jerry “Buddy” Richardson (Tammy), Patricia “Sissy” Hale (Ray), Michael Richardson (Cindy), all of Rockingham, and Martha Richardson Scott of Garner; brother, Jesse Pankey (Marsha) of Virginia and brother-in-law, Legrand Richardson of Rockingham. Her legacy continues with 20 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 39 great-great-grandchildren, seven great-great-great-grandchildren and one more on the way. There are also many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, at Roberdel Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Hawks officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:45–1:45 p.m. Saturday at the church and at other times at the home of Jerry and Tammy Richardson.
