OBITUARY: Samuel Lawrence Crouch Jr.

Samuel Lawrence “Larry” Crouch Jr., 74, of Rockingham passed away Nov. 6, 2024.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Debbie Crouch; and parents; Lawrence and Irma Crouch.

Larry’s memory will be cherished by his loving children, Kary Edmondson (Eric) and Sam Crouch (Misty); and his precious grandchildren, Ethan and Ava Edmondson, Shyann and Calli Byrd, and Owen and Weston Crouch. He is also survived by two brothers, Jeff Crouch and Rex Crouch, and one sister, Kay Smith.

He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who treated his nieces and nephews as his own children, exemplifying his belief that family meant everything.

Larry served proudly in the United States Marine Corps, embodying the Marine Corps values of honor, courage, and commitment throughout his life. The discipline and brotherhood he experienced as a Marine shaped him profoundly, and he carried the title of Marine with deep pride and dignity. “Once a Marine, always a Marine” wasn’t just a saying to Larry — it was a way of life that he honored every day. Always faithful; Semper Fi.

During racing season, every Sunday afternoon, without fail, you could find Larry in his recliner, completely absorbed in the NASCAR race — it was his special time that everyone knew not to disturb.

Anyone who knew Larry knew his laugh — it was utterly distinctive and completely unforgettable. His booming, infectious laugh could be heard across any room, and it never failed to get others laughing along with him. It was as much a part of him as his wonderful sense of humor, and those who loved him will always smile when they remember that unique, hilarious laugh that brought so much joy.

The special bond he shared with his brothers and sisters was a cornerstone of his life, and his fierce love for his children and grandchildren was evident in everything he did.
