Sanford “Sam” Gordon Hopper Jr., 87, of Greensboro, passed away Monday, Nov. 20, 2023 at Hospice Home of High Point.
Mr. Hopper was born April 27, 1936 in Rockingham County, a son of the late Sanford Gordon Hopper and Marjorie Sprinkle Hopper Tysor.
He was a graduate of Guilford College, Class of 1969, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and was a member of the Guilford College American Legion. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Naval Reserve and the U.S. Army. He retired from Kahl Specialty Steel Company.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Frankie Hopper, Leon Tysor and Phillip Tysor.
Surviving are his children, Anna Stocum (Keith), Jody Pennington (Steve) and Josh Hopper; and grandchildren, Daniel Hooker, Susi Hooker, Gehrig Hopper and Allie Hopper.
A graveside inurnment service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023 at Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery, 316 Concord Church Road, Ellerbe. A celebration of life will be held in Greensboro on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023 from noon until 2 p.m. at the Oak Ridge Meadows Club House.
The family wishes to extend their thanks Sam’s friends and neighbors who helped care for and looked after him.
