ROCKINGHAM — Sara Elizabeth Stewart, 85, of Rockingham, passed away suddenly Jan. 9, 2023 at Pruitt Health Nursing Home.
She was born Nov. 18, 1937, daughter of the late Elizabeth Grice and John Roy Rainwater.
Sara was a loving and giving woman. Native to Richmond County, Sara was an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church all her life. Growing up in the Rockingham community, Sara worked at Legs as a seamstress for over 30 years. Sara enjoyed sewing as a hobby, and to be able to do something she loved be her way to provide for her family was truly a blessing. Sara adored her pets, her two cats Boots and Monkey, and her son’s dog Maggie.
Along with her parents, Sara was preceded in death by her siblings, Billy, Bobby and Catherine Rainwater. She is also preceded by her late husband, David Coy Stewart Sr., to whom she was married for 58 years before he passed.
Surviving her are her son, David Coy Stewart Jr. (Jerri Leigh Stewart) of Rockingham; grandchildren, Corey Stewart and Brittany Stewart of Rockingham. Sarah also leaves behind her cats, Boots and Monkey, and Maggie, the family dog.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 11 a.m.-noon at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for visitation. Funeral services will commence at noon with the Rev. Butch Parks officiating. Entombment will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park.
