OBITUARY: Sara Ellen Miller Livingston

Sara Ellen Miller Livingston, 93, of Hamlet, passed away Monday, Aug. 21, 2023 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.

She was born Oct. 25, 1929, in Hamlet, daughter of the late Earl Montgomery Miller and Hazel Dickson Miller.

Sara worked with Burlington Industries as a secretary for more than 42 years. She was a longtime member of Fellowship Methodist Church in Hamlet. Sara loved all animals, but especially dogs and horses. Sara was an avid painter in her younger days, and anything from a piece of wood to a beach cap could be her canvas.

She also traveled extensively, both in the U.S. and abroad. While much of her traveling was with Walter, and her cousin Margaret and husband Robert, Sara and Margaret still kept traveling into their late 70s after Walter and Robert had passed. Nothing would slow them down, as evidenced by their trips to Machu Picchu in 2007, Europe in 2008, and Alaska in 2009, when she was 79 years old.

The family would like to thank Susan Butler, Sara’s caregiver for the last year and a half, for her compassion, her love for Sara, and for spoiling her with attention and coffee ice cream almost every night.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Rea Livingston; grandson, Walt Livingston; and brother, Pat Miller.
