OBITUARY: Shirley Bruce McRary

Shirley Bruce McRary, 85, of Hanover, Pennsylvania, formerly of Hamlet, passed away Monday, July 10, 2023 at Kingston Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, York, Pennsylvania.

She was born Dec. 11, 1937 in Hamlet, daughter of the late Robert E. Bruce and Lula Covington Bruce.

Shirley was a faithful, lifetime member of First United Methodist Church, Hamlet. She spent her entire life being involved with her church and loved her church family.

She was a devoted wife for over 63 years to her husband, Jack, who preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 2022. Shirley and Jack were able to construct and build their own home in Hamlet. She was a wonderful mother, always being present for her children, and loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother. Spending the last 6 and a half months living with her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and William, in Pennsylvania, she was able to spend quality time with her great-granddaughter, Autumn.

Shirley is now in the presence of her Savior and forever reunited with her husband and her mother, whom she dearly loved.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Gordon McRary; and sisters, Nina Roten, Myrtle Hudson and Elosie Davis.

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Janet Alexander (William) of Hanover, Pennsylvania, and Jackie Rogers (Jason) of Portsmouth, Virginia; grandchildren, Jack Alexander (Claire) of Abbottstown, Pennsylvania, and Jessica Rogers of Portsmouth, Virginia; great-granddaughter, Autumn Alexander; and brother, Herbert Bruce of Hamlet.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 14, 2023 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Harrington Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Thornton officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Eastside Cemetery following the service, privately with the immediate family.
