OBITUARY: William ‘Archie’ Killough

William “Archie” Killough, age 67, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022, peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Archie was born Feb. 16, 1955 to the late William Killough Sr. and Mary Long Killough of Hamlet.

Archie was a loving father, uncle, brother, son, and friend.

Archie began his career as an engineer with CSX Railroad. After several years with the railroad, he left to pursue his lifelong passion of teaching and coaching. Archie retired from Scotland County Schools after 25 years of service. Archie was loved on and off the field as friend, coach, and umpire. His greatest moments were his Saturday nights as a semi-pro football official.

Archie faithfully attended First Presbyterian Church in Hamlet, serving as deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years.

Archie’s greatest pride and joy were his children, William “Bill” Killough III (Chaquitta) of Fort Riley, Kansas, Mary “Libby” Killough and Sara Killough of the home; along with his grandchildren,Caylie Killough and Wrynlee Killough of Fort Riley, Kansas. Archie also leaves behind his loving sister, Eoline Killough (Ben) of Raleigh.

Archie was loved by many including his children, sister, niece, nephew, and many friends. Archie will be missed by Bella, his loving K-9 companion.

A memorial service will be held at Mary Love Cemetery in Hamlet, Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022 at 1 p.m. with Bobby Cooke officiating.
