OBITUARY: William Earl Kitchens

William “Will” Earl Kitchens, 72, of Hamlet, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.

He was born Sept. 7, 1951, in Washington County, Georgia, son of the late James Ralph Kitchens and Lillian Akridge Kitchens.

Will served our country in the United States Army. He was a roofer for many years and was a hard worker. He loved all sports and especially NASCAR racing and drag racing.

Will loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and his friends and would do anything to help anyone in need. He loved to laugh and make others laugh as well. He will be dearly missed by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Evans Lamar Kitchens; grandchild, Hailey Ewing; and nephew, William Burrows.

Will is survived by his sons, Donald Ewing, Shawn Ewing and Bobby James Ewing; grandchildren, Abigail Ewing Quick, Trey Ewing, Jordan Hayes, Jasmine Ewing, Shawn Ewing and Carley Ewing; great-grandchildren, Haylen Alexander and Brantlyn Hayes; brothers, Jimmy Kitchens of Frederick, Colorado, Fred Kitchens Sr. of Ridgeville, South Carolina, and Curtis Kitchens of Hamlet; sisters, Minnie Ann Page (Don) of Eutawville, South Carolina and Connie Sue Smith (Jack) of Summerville, South Carolina; dear daughter-in-law, Amy Wilkerson; nieces and nephews, Fred Kitchens Jr., James Barrine Kitchens, James Noel Kitchens II, Lorri Johnson (Mike), Mary Mooney (Gregg), Beth Dorman (Mark), Larry Smith (Kristie), and Shannon Smith Rostetter (John); and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life Gathering on Saturday, April 13, 2024 from 1-5 p.m. at the House on the Hill building at Cheraw State Park (free admission), Cheraw, South Carolina.
