William Edward “Eddie” Russell, 66, of Rockingham, passed away surrounded by his loving family, Sunday Jan. 14, 2024.
Eddie was a son of William and Mabel Russell and was born March 11, 1957.
Along with his parents, Eddie is preceded in death by his sister, Cecilia Russell Herring.
Eddie was a Richmond County native. After graduating from Richmond Senior High School in 1975, he spent two years diligently studying at Sandhills Community College. Eddie would go on to obtain his bachelor’s degree in education from Pembroke University. Eddie worked for the Scotland County School System for over 30 years. Eddie was a history teacher that enjoyed educating children in his community. He earned Teacher of the Year award in Scotland County. Outside of work, Eddie loved his family and helping people. Eddie enjoyed reading in his pastime and loved Surfside Beach.
Eddie is survived by brother Robbie Russell and wife Beverly, brother Joe Russell and wife Peggy, and his sister, Beverly Shephard and husband Jimmy. Eddie leaves behind several nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Along with family, Eddie leaves behind friends and a community who will all miss him dearly.
The family will receive friends for visitation Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Roberdell Methodist Church. Services will immediately follow with the Rev. Paul Haber officiating. Committal will be held at Green Lake United Methodist Church Cemetery.
In addition to flowers, memorial donations can be made out to Roberdel Methodist Church.
