OBITUARY: William Gilbert Jordan

William Gilbert Jordan, age 84, loving father of three children, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023.

Gilbert Jordan was born on Sept. 8, 1938 in Red Springs, North Carolina.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Wright.

Throughout his life, Gilbert worked a wide variety of jobs. He retired from the federal civil service from the Department of the Navy and the United States Coast Guard. He worked as an electrician apprentice for the Seaboard Coast Line, maintenance technician for North Carolina State University, and head of maintenance at The Oaks, Brevard. Gilbert also owned and operated his own heating and air conditioning business in Hamlet.

Gilbert spent countless hours volunteering coaching Little League baseball. As an Eagle Scout, he volunteered as an adult leader for the Boy Scouts of America and he also served as a master mason in his Masonic Lodge. Gilbert also volunteered with the Baptists on Mission organization providing disaster relief assistance to those affected by several natural disasters. Gilbert used his clown persona and performance with hand puppets to spread the gospel. Undoubtedly, he touched many lives through this endeavor.

Survivors include his three children, Bill and Michelle Jordan of Red Oak, Iowa; Mike and Heidi Jordan of Brevard, North Carolina; Melanie and Jackie Creech of Brevard, North Carolina; sister, Joan Wirth of Clearwater, Florida; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1:30, on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Harrington Funeral Home, Hamlet, with the Rev. Dennis Johns officiating. Internment will be at Mary Love Cemetery Hamlet, North Carolina.
