OBITUARY: William Joseph Locklear

William Joseph “JoJo” Locklear, 23, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, formerly of Rockingham, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024 at his home.

He was born May 29, 2000, son of Russell Howard Locklear and Arlene Mae Clark Locklear.

JoJo, as he was affectionately known, was a skilled carpenter in construction and was a hard worker. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

JoJo loved sports, especially basketball, and also played football and baseball. In his younger years, he was a Boy Scout. He enjoyed music and was a creative and artistic young man. He was known as being comedic, enjoyed laughing, and had the personality to light up the room. He will be dearly missed to all of his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James “Jimbo” Locklear, Janet Elaine Bullard, Willie Foster Clark and Pearlie Mae Clark.

JoJo is survived by his parents, Russell Locklear of Maxton and Arlene Clark Locklear of Dillon, South Carolina; his loving aunt and uncle who raised him, Westley M. Newberry and Natasha “Nickie” Newberry of Rockingham; brothers, Justin Kele Locklear of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Matthew Howard Locklear of Rockingham, and Zachary Alexander Anderson of Columbia, South Carolina; sisters, Heather Nicole Locklear of Greenville, and Nina Elaina Clark of Fayetteville; significant other, Rebeka Barnett; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024 from noon-12:45 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Roberdel Road, Rockingham.

The funeral service will begin, after the visitation, beginning at 1 p.m. at the church, with President Wayne Garner officiating. Interment will follow at McLucas Cemetery, Clio, South Carolina.
