ROCKINGHAM —Peggy Stubbs McDuffie, 78, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, June 6, 2020, from Hospice Haven.

Her life began on Aug. 5, 1941, a daughter of the late Norman and Ruby Ezzell Stubbs of Bladen County.

She was the widow of the late Burley McDuffie who died in 2006.

Peggy was a devoted wife and mother who also enjoyed crafts and sewing. She worked for J.P. Stevens for 20 or more years as a spinner. She later worked as a caregiver at Covington Rest Home for several years. As long as her health permitted, she was a faithful member of Good News Freewill Baptist Church of Rockingham.

Her memory will be cherished by her two sons, Charles Wayne Smith and wife, Denise McGhee-Smith, of Rockingham, and Michael Craig Branch and wife, Helen, of Clarkton; three sisters, Louise Bullard of Cordova, Alice Brock of Hamlet and Ruby Shaw (Gene) of Chadburn; a brother, Livingston Ray Stubbs (Diane) of Maryland; plus a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Terry Scott Smith; two sisters, Rosalee Stubbs and Linda Appleby; and three brothers, Norman Stubbs Jr., Clyde Stubbs and George Frank Stubbs.

A time of visitation will be from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, at Good News FWB Church, 609 US Hwy. 74 W., Rockingham. A private family service will follow officiated by Pastor Dennis Smith. She will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Burley, in Eastside Cemetery.
