Penny Elaine Durden Cairo

HAMLET — Ms. Penny Elaine Durden Cairo, 53, of Hamlet, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022 at her home. 

She was born June 24, 1968 in Richmond County, daughter of the Judy Durden Broadway and the late Charles Wayne Williams.

Penny worked as a waitress in the restaurant business and also at Pinehurst Resort golf courses. She had a good personality and a good heart. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved everyone that came into her life. She loved to cook. She also liked her soap operas. She worried more about her family than herself.

Services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, January, 18 in the chapel of Watson–King Funeral Home in Hamlet with the Rev. Ronnie Wayne Chavis and the Rev. James Croke officiating and interment following at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will have visitation to see friends Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at her home.

Penny is survived by two sons, Eric Durden of Rockingham and Jeremy Cairo of Aberdeen; her mother, Judy Durden Broadway of the home; granddaughter, Kensley Cairo of Hamlet; siblings, Pam Davis of Hamlet, Lisa Williams of Hamlet, Sherry Williams of Rockingham, Charlie Williams of Rockingham, Jamie Williams of Rockingham, Kim Rainwater of Loveland, Colorado, Joey Oxendine of Hamlet, and Johnny Williams of Rockingham; and her ex-husband, Joe Cairo of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Penny was preceded in death by her father, Charles Wayne Williams; grandparents, Nina Wall Durden and Daniel Durden; and stepmother, Shirley Williams.
