Phyllis Cox King

ROCKINGHAM — Phyllis Cox King, of Rockingham, passed away on April 3 surrounded by her family after a brief, courageous battle with cancer. 

She was born Aug. 8, 1959 in Rockingham, daughter of the late Bernie and Hazel Cox. 

She was a graduate of Richmond Senior High School and was employed with Burlington Industries for many years, Atex and Richmond County Waste Management.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernie and Hazel Cox.

Phyllis was always the life of the party and enjoyed taking many trips to the mountains and the beach. Many of these trips were taken not only with her family but with her parents, and then yearly trips with just her sisters. The highlights of her days were spending time with her grandchildren, Raylan and Chet. 

Phyllis is survived by her husband of 41 years, Roger King, of the home; daughters, Shandi Barnes of the home, Kari Davis (Bubba) of Ellerbe; grandchildren, Chet Barnes and Raylan Davis; sisters, Teresa Bowman (Mike), Marie Johnson (Ray) and Robin Martin (Joe). 

A memorial service will be held at Grace Fellowship Church, 217 Midway Road, Rockingham, at 5 p.m, on April 5, which is also the 13th anniversary of her mother’s passing. Visitation will be 3:45-4:45 prior to service.
