HAMLET — Prentiss Herndon, 70, of Hamlet, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at The Hermitage Retirement Center in Rockingham.
He was born Oct. 30, 1950 in Richmond County, son of the late Fred Herndon and Leslie Paul Herndon.
As a child, Prentiss attended the Ghio Church of God. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and growing his own vegetables. He was a loving, quiet man who kept to himself.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Otis Herndon; and a sister, Ella Rainwater.
Survivors include his son, Garrett Herndon of Hamlet; sisters, Delia Hogan, Cynthia Peed and Betty Doty (James), all of Hamlet; brothers, Jerry Herndon of Bennettsville, South Carolina and Freddie Herndon (Vicky) of Wallace, South Carolina; three grandchildren; four nieces and five nephews.
A visitation will be held at Harrington Funeral Home & Crematory, Saturday, May 29, 2021, from 7-9 p.m.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday, May 30, 2021 at Abundant Life Church with Pastor Joe Wilkes officiating.
Burial will follow at Hogan Family Cemetery, 200 Eddie’s Lane, Hamlet.
Everyone is asked to wear a mask and to continue to practice social distancing.
