Ralph Capel Baldwin

ROCKINGHAM — Ralph Capel Baldwin, 97, of Rockingham started his new life with Jesus on Wednesday, June 2, 2021.

Ralph was born Jan. 12, 1924 in Richmond County, a son of the late William Thomas and Dora Capel Baldwin. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, 3rd Division, Military Police during World War II. While stationed in Guam, one of his duties was being a guard at CINCPAC Fleet Headquarters, while Adm. Chester Nimitz was Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet.

He was a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church. For many years he worked with American Bakeries/ Merita Bread.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Sarah Dunn Baldwin on Nov. 2, 2019; and his siblings, Leo Baldwin, Jessie Baldwin, Laura Baldwin, Louise Baldwin Lassiter, Bennett Baldwin, John Baldwin, W.S. “Buck” Baldwin and Betty Baldwin D’Elia.

He is survived by a son, Ralph C. Baldwin Jr. (Lu Shep); a daughter, Sharon Baldwin Bailey (Roger); four grandsons, Michael Bailey (Tanya), Matthew Bailey (Reva), Adam Baldwin (Rachel), Neal Baldwin (Elizabeth); great-grandchildren, Tucker Bailey, Tenley Bailey, Soffe Bailey, Drew Baldwin, Sam Baldwin; a special niece, Iris West, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services with military honors will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2021 in the Mausoleum of Richmond County Memorial Park with the Rev. Joel Perry officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the mausoleum.
