Rena Shedrick-Marshall

HAMLET— Rena Mae Shedrick-Marshall, age 75, died peacefully at home with her husband and family by her side on Oct. 1, 2021.

Rena was born on April 12, 1946 in Washington, D.C., oldest daughter of Gussie Ingram and Reamer Shedrick Sr.

She worked for the American Red Cross as disaster services director in Hampton, Virginia, a position from which she retired. Moving to Hamlet in 2002, she was manager at the Rockingham Red Cross chapter for over a year.

Rena spent many happy years as a Carolina Pines Girl Scout “Uniquely Me” program coordinator. As a member of the Hamlet Lions Club, she had a term as president and was first vice district governor for District 31F.

Rena is survived by her husband of 25 years, Raymond Marshall; four children, Verna Coleman, Cornell Lanier, Christopher Lanier and Stanley Hall; four stepchildren, Jennifer Marshall, David Marshall, Michael Marshall and Lisa Strickland; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Violet Smith, Elindra Garvin and Sandra Moens; and one brother, Reamer Shedrick Jr.

Besides spending time at various family events, Rena had a passion for traveling and enjoying life. She had a bright, energetic personality and was known for her ability to sense when people needed her help. Rena touched many lives with her generosity and passion for live.

A “Celebration of Life” will take place at Nelson Funeral Home, 1021 E. Washington St., Rockingham, on Oct. 16, 2021 between 2 and 4 p.m.
