Richard Lee Snyder

HAMLET — Richard “Dick” Lee Snyder, 85, of Hamlet, went to his eternal home on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, at his residence.

Mr. Snyder was born Dec. 26, 1936 in Concord, son of the late John David Snyder and Thelma Delette Robinson.

Dick was a graduate of Hamlet High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Army, serving from 1955-1958 and the United States Army Reserve from 1958-1961. He was employed with the Tom Houston Company, Revco Drugs, and Family Dollar. He retired with 20 years service with CVS (formerly Revco) and 10 years with Family Dollar.

Dick was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Hamlet, where he sang in the choir for many years, served as a deacon, member of the Pearce Bible Class, the Joy Club, taught Sunday school, worked with the youth when he was first out of service, as well as served on various committees. After retirement, Dick also loved woodworking and bird watching.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Snyder Kolter; furbabies, Mitzi, Samantha Buttons, and Sabrina Marie; and adopted daughter, Bennie C. Phillips.

Dick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Britt Snyder of the home; nephew, Luther Gregory (Judy) Pool of Raleigh; niece, Stephanie Pool of Columbia, South Carolina; cousin, Rosemary B. Moore (Jimmy) and Lamar Robinson (Elaine) of Kennebunkport, Maine; Margaret “Meg” Pool of Raleigh; a number of nieces and nephews on his wife’s side of the family; Godchildren, Donna G. (Fred) Whitt of Hickory, Donald B. (Jamie) Greene Jr. of Rockingham, Thomas Jeffery (Jenni) Greene of Hamlet; adopted granddaughter, Kimberly Brown; and furbaby, Buddy, who kept him company every day.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, from 6-7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Hamlet.

The funeral will be Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Hamlet, with the Rev. Allison Farrah and the Rev. Jim Ritter officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Memorial Park Cemetery.

Social distancing and masks are requested for all services.
