Robert & Ann Yates

Robert “Bob” Clayton Yates, 89, and his beloved wife Anne Helms Yates, 84, completed their earthly journeys, Robert on Jan. 18, 2022 and Anne on Jan. 30, 2022, have been reunited in their heavenly home with their Lord and Savior.

Mr. Yates was born July 17, 1932 in Richmond County, a son of the late John Harrison and Katie Knowles Yates.

He was a member and deacon of Bethel Baptist Church in Marshville and a member of Gideons International. He had proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He had retired from Southeast Lighting Inc.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, John H. Yates, Jr., Eldridge W. Yates, James T. “Tom” Yates, Leroy W. Yates, Norma Y. McGuire, Betty Y. Holland, Doris Y. Staples and Margaret Y. Maples.

Mrs. Yates was born Aug. 24, 1937 in Montgomery County, a daughter of the late E.C. Helms and Evelyn Auman Helms Comer and was raised in Ellerbe, North Carolina.

For 40 years she and her husband were residents of Charlotte, where they were active members of Carmel Baptist Church and where she taught preschool for 20 years. Following their retirement, they lived in Marshville for 22 years where she was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Clayton Yates on Jan. 18, 2022; and her stepfather, Clinton Comer.

Surviving are their daughters, Julie Yates Green (Sheldon) and Janet Yates Saunders (Sandy); and three grandchildren, Chase Green, Shelby Green and Jordan Saunders. Additionally, Mrs. Yates’ sister Carolyn Comer Sherayko (Gerry) survives, along with many nieces and nephews.

A service giving thanks for and celebrating their lives will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022 at Bethel Baptist Church, Marshville, with the Rev. Randy Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends following the services.

Face coverings are requested at the services.
