HAMLET — Robert Franklin Dawkins Sr., 75, of Hamlet, went to his Heavenly home on Friday, July 16, 2021, at FirstHealth Richmond, in Rockingham.
He was born Nov. 20, 1945 in Hamlet, son of George Wyatt and Ida Garner Dawkins.
He was veteran of the U.S. Army, an active member of Victory Baptist Church, he attended Richmond Technical Institute and was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America organization. He spent most of his life in Hamlet; and was a very loving father.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Victory Baptist Church, 171 Clemmer Road, Rockingham. (At other times, the family will meet at the home of his son, Rob and wife Marie, 2319 N. Main Street, Ellerbe.)
The funeral will begin in the church at 11 a.m. with Pastor Russell Edwards and Pastor Tommy Preslar officiating. Burial will follow at Marks Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolyn Louise Byers Dawkins; infant son, Brian Joseph Dawkins; and his siblings, George Dawkins Jr., John Henry Dawkins, Tom Dawkins, Ida Mae Duncan, Emma Thompson, Mary Jane Puckett and Louise Steen.
Survivors include, son, Robert Dawkins Jr. (Marie) of Ellerbe; daughter, Amy Dawkins of the home; brothers, Harry Dawkins and James Dawkins, both of Hamlet; sister, Thelma Ransom of Hamlet; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs.
