Robert Keith Singletary Sr.

HAMLET — Robert Keith Singletary Sr., 73, of Hamlet, went home to be with his Lord, Friday, Aug. 27, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was just shy of his 74th birthday, as he was born Sept. 3, 1947. His parents were the late C.V. and Effie Shaw Singletary.

At an early age, growing up in East Rockingham, Keith loved fishing and passed the trade along to his kids and grandkids. He always knew where to find the “hot spots.” After high school, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. When he returned home from the service, Keith became well-known as Cue-Ball. In those early days, his pool game was sharp and his kids still remember the wall of tournament trophies that were displayed and the full-sized pool table that took up the entire living room. In the late 1970s, he began picking up the sport of golf and it soon became a favorite pastime. His love of golf remained until his last days. Many will recall seeing him working on his golf game in the field just up the road from his house.

Keith would tell you, though, that his most important passion was his work for the Lord. He began attending and devoting time at Second Baptist Church in Hamlet in the late 1980s. When Keith was baptized and became a servant of God, his life changed in a way that only God understood his future purpose. Little did he know how his life events would allow him to witness to so many on a level that displayed honesty, humility and love.  His personal ministry continued as a member at Sweet Haven Church in Rockingham over the last 15 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Willard, Richard, Jack, Charles, Ronald and Curtis Singletary; sisters, Inez Kaplan and Betty Quick; and granddaughter, Amber Lane McCullough.

He is survived by his wife, Lita Hartgrove Singletary, of the home; sons, Robert “Robbie” Keith Singletary Jr. (Jennifer) of Rockingham and Gray Bell (Kristin) of South Mills; daughters, Amy Roller (Evan) of Rockingham, Chrissy Dycus (Scott) of Rockingham, Marley Tucker (Terry) of Oakboro and Angel Bell of Hamlet; grandchildren, Alexis, Bryson, Hannah, Noah, Ally, Logan, Cameron, Caroline, Jake, Mason, Tristan, Ashton, Brayden and Brooks; and great-grandchildren, Willow, Kinsley, Addi and Damon.
