CORDOVA — Robert Laney Benton Jr., 52, of Cordova, completed his earthly journey on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021.
Mr. Benton was born May 6, 1968 in Richmond County, a son of Joyce Duncan Benton Hodges and the late Robert L. Benton. He worked as an electrician with Vulcan Material Company and was a graduate of Richmond Community College. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and taking trips to the coast.
Surviving are his children, Kevin Harris Benton (Brittnee), Krystal Lynn Odom Harris (Aaron), Shelia Knight Orr (Michael), William Aaron Keith Smith (Gaby); his mother, Joyce Duncan Hodges (Jimmy); grandchildren, Cierra Cowick, Austin Cowick, Emily Harris, Chandler Orr, Kady Harris, Brooklyn Benton, Tucker Burgess, Kreelyn Orr, Dylan Burgess, Breslyn Benton, Mason Melton, Eden Orr, Wyatt Smith; his significant other, Ginger Burgess; and siblings, Shirley Ann Benton, Kim Moore, Debbie Woods and Johnathan Grooms.
Gravside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 2021 at Richmond County Memorial Park. Face coverings are required and please remember social distancing.
Mr. Benton will lie in state at Carter Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until noon Monday. The family will not be present during this time. The family will gather at Mr. Benton’s home.
