Roger Dean Hayden

ELLERBE — Master Sgt. Roger Dean Hayden, U.S. Army retired, 66, of Ellerbe, passed away Saturday, Nov. 21, 2020.

Roger was born Dec. 7, 1953 in Montgomery County, a son of the late James Hayden and Wilma Smith Hayden Sweet.

He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army for 22 years, retiring as a master sergeant. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed helping family, friends and neighbors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Hayden; and a step-granddaughter, Sabrina Suarez.

Surviving are his sons, Jeremy Hayden (Holly Johnson) and Ethan Hale; granddaughters, Olivia Hayden and Kaitlyn Allen; great-granddaughter, Aleiah Dorsett; brothers, Earl Hayden, Keith Hayden and Jimmy Hayden; and sisters, Brenda Ward and Gayle Greene.

Graveside services with military honors will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ellerbe Cemetery. Face coverings are required pursuant to Executive Order 180, please be mindful of social distancing, and bring a lawn chair.

Roger will lie in state at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham from 9:30–11:30 a.m. Saturday. The family will not be present during this time.
