Sarah Louise Russell Baxley Jarrett

ROCKINGHAM — Sarah Louise Russell Baxley Jarrett passed from this life into her heavenly home reuniting with her loved ones Feb. 21, 2021 at age 92. She took her last breath at The Stewart Center in Charlotte. 

Louise was born in Mount Gilead to parents Thomas A. Russell and Ella Sasser Russell in 1928.

She married Thomas R. Baxley, who was serving in the Air Force, and they were soon stationed in San Bernardino, California. They settled in Rockingham and enjoyed family and friends for many years until his death in 1992. During her life she held many jobs. She retired from Sears and went on to hold jobs at Attorney’s Sharp and Buckner, secretary at FirstHealth Family and also at Dr. Al Haltiwanger’s dental practice. She then met and married Dr. Charles Jarrett and lived many happy years at Cypress of Charlotte. When Charles passed away in 2019, she remained at Stewart Health Center at the Cypress until her passing. 

She was predeceased by her parents; husbands, Thomas R. Baxley and Charles A. Jarrett; her brother, Larry Russell of Wadesboro. 

 She is survived by her daughter, Ms. Marcia Baxley of Durham; her grandson, Ryan B. Hewelt of Durham; brother, Graham Russell (Dot); sisters, Nita Lomax of Pinehurst, Ruth East of Mount Gilead. She leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Penny Benoist (Aberdeen) and Gloria Fair (Jim) of Greer, South Carolina. 

 She unofficially adopted Janet Marks Breedlove and enjoyed her friendship for many years.  

The family wants to thank the staff of The Stewart Center for their love and care. Special thanks go to Lisa McClendon Chaves and Randall Byars whom she loved as family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 637, Rockingham, N.C. 28380; and University Presbyterian Church, Box 509, Chapel Hill, N.C. 27514; or a charity of your church. 

A graveside service will be held at East Side Cemetery in Rockingham, Thursday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m., Eastside Cemetery, 1500 Fayetteville Road in Rockingham. Masks are required.
