ROCKINGHAM — Sarah Blake Maxwell, 78, passed away at Hermitage Retirement Center Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, following a period of declining health.
She was born in Richmond County on Oct. 7, 1941, a daughter of the late Neal A. Blake and the late Roxie Quick Blake. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Carpenter Linton.
A graduate of Rohanen High School, Class of 1960, Mrs. Maxwell spent most of her life as a homemaker for her family. She was a devoted wife and mother and she was always willing to help family and friends alike whenever needed. She was a member of Cartledge Creek Baptist Church.
Her memory will be cherished by her husband of 55 years, Richard Neal Maxwell of the home; one daughter, Tammy M. Oglesby and husband, Thomas, of Hamlet; three nieces, one nephew, and many friends.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the Carter Funeral Home Colonial Chapel, officiated by Pastor Jason Lutz. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12:45 until 1:45 at the funeral home and at other times at the home. She will be laid to rest beside her mother in Richmond County Memorial Park.
