Selma Lewis

ROCKINGHAM — Mrs.  Selma Gardner Lewis, 81, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham. She was born Aug. 17, 1937 in Guilford County, daughter of the late S.C. and Gertrude Crutchfield Gardner.

Mrs. Gardner was a member of Roberdel Baptist Church, where she was very active on the Hospitality Committee, Bereavement Committee, Laymen Sunday School Class, Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), and sang in the choir. She was retired from Richmond Memorial Hospital, where she was a billing clerk. Mrs. Lewis was a precious mother, grandmother, sister, and she loved her family.

Services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at Roberdel Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Dennis officiating and interment following at Richmond Memorial Park. The family will have visitation to see friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Lewis is survived by her daughter, Sharon Lewis and husband Franklin of Rockingham; two sons, Jay Lewis and wife Stacy of Gastonia and Ray Lewis and wife Tammy of Havelock; two grandchildren, Kandace Frye of Rockingham and Kristin Lewis of Cullowhee; two sisters, Sarah Jane Arnette and Peggy Lampley, both of Rockingham. Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Charles Lewis; and  brothers, S.C. Gardner Jr., Walt Gardner, Melvin Gardner and James Gardner.
