On Tuesday, July 3, 2018, Teddy Gene “Ted” Chance, 83, Rockingham, NC passed peacefully while down on the coast. He enjoyed his last dip in the ocean, his last dinner at Calabash, and his last trip with his wife and the boys.
Ted was born November 30, 1934 to John and Mildred Chance. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, enjoyed flea markets, his dogs, collecting, gardening, watching Nascar race along with spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ted was retired from CSX. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mildred Chance, brother, J.W. Chance, and sister, Shirley Moore.
He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Betty Chance, his four sons, Ronnie Turnage (Debbie), Roger Turnage (Pam), Wayne Turnage and Johnny Turnage. Four grandchildren, Shawn Turnage Weigman (Gary), Kerry Turnage, Christie Turnage Gainey and Jill Turnage Veach (Michael) along with eight great grandchildren, Kimber, Garet, Carson, Caden, Peyton, Aubrie, Jake and Cameron and his sister, Betty Ruth Rigley.
Ted will be missed by many and was an amazing family man.
Funeral services will be at 1pm Friday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham with Rev. Mitchell Roller officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park.
The family will see friends from 11:45 am -12:45 pm Friday at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
