Thomas Hearne Ussery

ROCKINGHAM — Thomas Hearne Ussery passed peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus, surrounded by his family, on March 9, 2022, in the home he built on the homeplace where he was born and raised. He was born March 3, 1930 to the late John Ernest and Annie Lee McRae Ussery.

He was a devoted husband and dad. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and sharing the bounty of his garden with his community. He enjoyed traveling this country with his wife before her death. He was retired from Burlington Industries and a lifelong member of Cordova Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Billie Jean Hendrix Ussery; his sisters, Jennie Ruth Tellez and Margaret Pence; brothers, Mack Ussery, John Everett Ussery, Marshall Ussery and Earl Ussery; and a beloved granddaughter, Nicole Hendrix.

He is survived by his children Randy Ussery (Missy), Tobey Ussery (Peggy), Ann Morse (Benny), Peggy Hendrix (David) and daughter-in-law Sandra Ussery; eight grandchildren, Sarah Delmar (Steve), Jackie Ussery, Ashlie Jenks (Dean), Hollie Smith (Chris), Matthew Morse (Kim), Daniel Morse (Rena Beth), Caleb Hendrix and Morgan Hendrix; four step-grandchildren, Allen Hendrix, John Hendrix, Amber Johnson (Brian) and Bryan Kellermann (Temple); nine great-grandchildren; Brandon, Zach and Levi Dycus, Tobey Lunceford, Adalynn Smith, Nate and Robbie Morse, Benjamin and Josiah Morse; seven step-great-grandchildren; Logan, Rylee, Cooper and Paxton Johnson, Addy Kellermann, Layla Foos and Ridge Hendrix; also by his loving family of in-laws, Lois Brewer, Rick Hendrix (Bonnie), Anthony Hendrix (Paulette), Margie Hendrix and Sylvia Hendrix.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Richmond County Memorial Park with the Rev. Doug Anderson officiating. The family will greet friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cordova Baptist Church, P.O.Box 160, Cordova, NC 28330.
