Virginia Marie Connor

ROCKINGHAM — Virginia Marie Connor, 89, of Rockingham, passed away peacefully on Nov. 3, 2021 at her home while in the care of Richmond County Hospice Hospice. 

She was born in Bronx, New York on Dec. 6, 1931 to the late George and Louise Buchmeier and always joked about being the same age as the Empire State Building. 

Virginia modeled hats in New York City in her younger years and also worked at U.S. Envelope in Connecticut. She was an avid seamstress for numerous years as well as working at Richmond Memorial Hospital in the EKG lab until she retired. She loved the beach, and a few of her favorite TV shows were “The Golden Girls” and “Wheel of Fortune.”

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Thomas Allen Connor; as well as her brother, Arthur Buchmeier.

Survivors include: daughters, Betty Gallo McIntyre, Linda Gallo DeMercer (Neal), and sons Rodney Peterson (Nina) and Allen Connor (Jennifer); grandchildren, Rachel Peterson, Joshua Peterson, Tosha Johnson, Jessica O’Neal, Amber Chavis, Terry Burge Jr., Breanna Connor, Violet Connor, Christopher Connor and Lee Irene Dorbuck; as well as six great-grandchildren. 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 13 at Roberdel Baptist Church in Rockingham. Visitation begins at 3 p.m. with the service following at 4 p.m.
