ROCKINGHAM — Walter McDonald, 78, of Rockingham, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Morrison Manor in Laurinburg.
He was born Dec. 26, 1942 in Richmond County, a son of the late Ernest and Catherine Blue McDonald.
Walter retired from NCDOT and was a member of McDonald Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. Both of the grandboys were the light of his life, but he had an extra special bond with the oldest, Ty. Everywhere his papa went, Ty was in his shadow. The memories they made together will last a lifetime.
He was preceded in death a sister, Billie Faye McDonald.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday, July 9, 2021, 2 p.m. at McDonald Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Branton and the Rev. Robert Tyson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving, his wife 49 years, Hilda McDonald; daughters, Lori McDonald and Kathy McDonald; grandsons, Ty Trammell and Jaxson Simmons; sisters, Elizabeth Thompson and Sara Covington.
The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
