CORDOVA — William “Bill” Thompson Sr., 70, of Cordova, passed away Sunday, Jan. 16, 2022 at his residence.
Mr. Thompson was born in Richmond County on Dec. 31, 1951, son of the late Cecil Azzie Thompson and the late Mary Catherine Newsome Thompson.
Bill was a longtime member of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church where he operated the music ministry. He also served in the United States Marine Corps. He loved making others smile and spending time with friends riding his Harley Davidson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Catherine Hope Thompson.
Bill is survived by his wife, Debi Wezyk Thompson, of the home; sons, William Harley Thompson Jr. and David Wayne Thompson, both of Rockingham, and James Paul Thompson (Rose) of San Diego, California; daughter, Karlee Rushing (Alec) of Rockingham; stepsons, Dalton Wezyk of Charleston, South Carolina, and Casey Wezyk of Rockingham; stepdaughter, Jordan Wezyk of Shallotte; grandchildren, Miranda Thompson, Stephen Thompson, Cody Thompson and Keyairah Thompson.
A memorial service is being planned for a later date.
